North Hollywood

The North Hollywood Pacific Electric Car Station is located at the intersection of Chandler and Lankershim Boulevards. It was part of a very efficient rail system that was dismantled due to competition from the automobile in 1952, though the station itself is still standing. This picture probably dates from 1919.

Yes, and the tracks were there until the last 2 years when they dug them up to build a busway. Stupid. Just fix the rails.
I know an older gentleman who used to work for the car companies back in that era. He helped to buy the street cars that used to go up Santa Monicas Blvd, Exposition, and even the Padadena ones. They took them out to the desert and burned them. They had to pay a small fine, but it was worth it to the companies at the time.

Hey- Hey! She's-a my neighborahood, too!

My favorite thing about the busway was when they dug up a huge stretch of it six months after they completed it.
