UNIX- you know, the operating system that is used in most mainframes- has no problem with four digit years. The real Y2K issue wasn't the machines, but the software where coders assumed two digit dates instead of four digit, even on *nix machines. I think it was a secret plot hatched years ago to make sure all the old COBOL programmers would have a lot of work for a couple of years.
As for the old IBM machines and their mishandling of dates. Yeah, that was pretty shortsighted thinking- but patches were available well before January 2000.
So it was IBM not the Bush administration that brought so many problems during the new Millennium? I hope my hard drive remembers that next year in case I see IBM on the ballot.
